Default Error: Windows could not load the installer for image

Hi,
I am using Windows XP SP2.

I get the error message "Windows could not load the installer for image. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance" during the final step of the installation of my Logitech web cam (QuickCam Chat) on Desktop.

I have downloaded the latest software from Logitech and did a clean install as per their instructions but it did not help.

Logitech support says it is a problem with the Windows OS itself. I have the latest windows installer 3.1 (KB893803).

It does not seem to be a problem with the QuickCam software as it successfully installed on my laptop.

Attached is the screen shot.

Any help or information would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Venkat

This is a particularly nasty bug, if you search http://news.google.com for it.

Looks like the option is to reinstall windows .. which for many isnt really viable.

Thumbs up An answer that doesn't make you cry.

I worked on the problem for for a while reading all the forums i could, but i still didn't track anything down. I'm trying to install a webcam on a newly "vista'd" machine.

First off, i went into the driver setup file and got the class registration number for that device.

ClassGUID= {6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}

I searched for 6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F in my registry and noticed that it made reference for a sti_ci.dll in the system 32 file. I searched for it but it wasn't there....this was starting to make sense. I searched for the .dll on my computer and found it in another spot on my HD. Don't know why it was there, but i copied it to the system32 and BAM, the installer loved it.

Hoped this helps you and anyone else who got as frustrated as i did.

Smile sti_ci.dll solves the problem!

I read this thread as well as others and tried each "solution". This one worked.

While I was not able to find sti_ci.dll located anywhere on my computer, I did find it in the Systems32 folder of another computer running XP. I copied this file into my computer's System32 folder and it worked!!

I am now able to load the software and sync my new Kodak digital camera.

Confirmed here... Had to install Logitech Pro 4000 webcam while migrating to Vista

First : I understood that the XP driver could do the job here (as now Vista driver is released)... but while installing the driver I fall into "The required section was not found in the INF"

Second : I had to add the magical key in Vista registery system
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F
and then I fall into "windows could not load the Installer image"

Third : I found this thread, imported sti_ci.dll from my XP system32 installation into Vista's and Bingo........ !

thanks a lot !

PS : 2 days work though to install a webcam... Welcome to windows Vista !!!
