Default X-HTML validator and link checker

There are various services to check X-HTML standard conformance and the validity of external links. However, they are sometimes limited to a number of pages or do understand HTML, but not X-HTML. Is there a single web service or, better yet, a program, to accomplish all this?

Marco,

I've had good luck with Xenu for link checking.

Have you used the W3 validator?

By the way, would strongly recommend using the Developer Toolbar by Chris Pederick if you use firefox.

Firebug seems to capture more errors that webdeveloper now, plus it has a lot more features for debugging AJAX, CSS, JavaScript, and loading times.

I've pretty much adopted Firebug for any debugging. Seems to do pretty well.

Yeah, the default firefox error console does offer a lot more than webdeveloper.
